Scholarship Description: Our group consists of an interdisciplinary team with expertise in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics and medicine.Therefore we provide an excellent working environment, comprising many lab-specific datasets for analysis and the possibility to participate in the design of future experiments. We study the molecular mechanism underlying the cardiac developmental process and its aberration in human (congenital heart disease). A particular focus is on the process of gene transcription, its regulation and phenotypic consequence. The heart, cardiac and skeletal muscle cells represent our model systems employing animal models, patient material and cell culture.

Fellows will be affiliated with one of the Wilson Center programs/projects and are encouraged to interact with policy makers in Washington, D.C. as well as with Wilson Center staff who are working on similar research and topics.

2011 Research Position funded by Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) in the field of Bioinformatics in Switzerland

Eligibility:-The ideal candidate has a university degree in bioinformatics, computer science, physics, or a related field. Candidates with a PhD and publications are welcome to apply.
-Familiarity with the management and analysis of large- scale genomics datasets will be considered an advantage. -In particular experience with sequencing data (next generation or Sanger -based sequence assembly and -mapping) or other functional genomics data (e.g. microarray data) is a plus. Basic skills with the LINUX/UNIX operating system are essential.
-Furthermore, a strong background in at least one scripting or programming language (Perl, Python, Java) is mandatory. -Experience in R/Bioconductor and/or web programming will be considered an advantage.
-The ability to work independently is a prerequisite, as is the ability to effectively interact with the research and technical staff of the center and of external research groups in a team-oriented manner.
-Advanced knowledge of English is essential, as this is the working language of the center.
-Knowledge of German is helpful.

Scholarship Description: Bioinformatics Expert Next Generation Sequencing to strengthen the bioinformatics team and support the analysis of next generation sequencing data generated in the various interdisciplinary research projects. The successful candidate will be involved in the analysis, processing, and management of sequencing data from Ion Torrent, AB SOLiD 5500xl, Roche/454 FLX, and PacBio RS platforms. In addition, the expert will also participate in building customized data analysis pipelines and in the scientific development of new approaches for data analysis.

The Italian Institute of Technology announced postdoctoral position for research in the Center , Italy

Scholarship Description: A postdoctoral position will be available immediately in the Center for Neuroscience and Cognitive Systems (CNCS, Rovereto, Italy) at the Italian Institute of Technology to work with Dr. Lorella Battelli. The project will explore links between motion, attention and time in a neurological population as well as in normal subjects. Moreover TMS and tDCS will be used as techniques to study the direct relationship between brain functions and behavior.
